SEMERWATER SPEAR 2016

FOR TWO DAYS AND TWO NIGHTS (October 28-30, 2016)

SEMERWATER PLAYED HOST TO A NEW PUBLIC ART WORK BY DAVID MURPHY IN ASSOCIATION WITH ARTS AND HERITAGE, THE DALES COUNTRYSIDE MUSEUM ANDCASSWELL BANK ARCHITECTS.THE UNIQUE ART INSTALLATION SYMBOLISED THE BRONZE AGE SPEAR FOUND AT THE LAKE IN THE 1930's.

SPEAR SAW A FLOATING PAVILION INSTALLED TEMPORARILY ON THE LAKE ALLOWING VISITORS TO FULLY EXPLORETHE ARTWORK AND TO VIEW THE LANDSCAPE FROM A UNIQUE POSITION.

IT WAS A FASCINATING WEEK WHERE THE ARTWORK CERTAINLY CAME TO LIFE AT NIGHT. THE SPEAR TOGETHERWITH THE WEATHER HELPED TO HIGHTLIGHT THE BEAUTY AND DRAMA OF THE LANDSCAPE.

ALTHOUGH THE SCULPTURE HAS NOW BEEN DISMANTLED THE REAL SPEAR CAN BE SEEN AT

THE DALES COUNTRYSIDE MUSEUM IN HAWES.
